Charles Foster Howden was born in 1932 in South Shields, Co of Durham.

Charles trained as a young man to be an Engineer, his training was at Redhead's shipyard as a Drafts-man.
Then finished his training as 3rd Engineer on the River Tyne Tugs.
He returned to seafaring and worked his way up to shore super and trouble shooter for an american firm. Zapata
