Biography

Llewellyn was born in Alaiedon, Ingham, Michigan on 2 Nov 1870. His birthdate is shown on his Find A Grave Memorial and in his obituary (both are referenced below). He is the first born child and son of Alphonso Howe and Eliza Kane. In the 1880 Census, he is at age 9 and attending school. It would appear that his parents are separated as his father is living in another nearby household as a boarder.[1] Llewellyn is living in his mother's household in Alaiedon. He is shown there with siblings Lillian and Clyde and is listed as "son" to Eliza.[2] In the 1900 Census, he is at age 30, living in Wheatfield township, Ingham with his sister's family that includes 3 children. He is shown as Brother-in-law.[3] In the 1910 Census, he is at age 39, living back in Alaiedon as the head of household. Also present are (1) his mother Eliza, at age 57. Curiously, Eliza has reverted to her maiden name, "Barry". And (2) his brother Clyde, who is at age 27.[4] On 25 May 1918, he married Martha (Slusser) Athy in Alaiedon Township.[5] In 1920, Llewellyn is at age 49 and is with his "new" family in Ingham, Ingham, Michigan. Martha, at age 48, brought her three children and an older brother into the household (and the marriage).[6] By 1930, Llewellyn is at age 59 and has moved in with his brother Clyde and his wife. They are living in Mason, Ingham, Michigan. Llewellyn is shown as "widowed".[7] Llewellyn died in Mason, Ingham, Michigan on 27 Jun 1938 and is buried in Leek Cemetery in Okemos, Ingham, Michigan.[8][9][10]
