Biography

On 28 May 1646, her father, Humphrey Howland wrote in his will, "Item I give and appoynt unto my said daughter Anne all the pewter marked w'th A.H. w'ch was her grandmothers, And the truncke and all the Lynnin therein standing in Mr Harberts chamber in my dwelling house. And two featherbeds and the cypress chest, and great wainscott chest standing in the hall of my said dwelling house."[1][2]

“Tho Hanson & Anne Howland” were married “feb first,” 1646/7 at St Nicholas in Deptford, Kent, England.[3][4]

Humphrey Howland's daughter Anne was not mentioned in the will of William Harbert "of the parish of Swithings in Bush Lane," on 19 Feb 1648[/9].[5] Humphrey Howland's widow Anne and her daughters Mary and Sarah are mentioned in the will of William Harbert "of the parish of Swithings in Bush Lane," City of London, dated 19 Feb 1648[/9] and proved 9 March 1648[/9]. William bequeathed his linen and most of his wearing apparel to his landlady Mrs. Anne Howland and gave Mary and Sarah Howland five pounds each. He bequeathed his lands and estate beyond the seas unto his kindred to be divided amongst them according to the laws of that country. He gave to his goddaughter Mary Winderbanck daughter of Michaell Winderbanck ten pounds and to Mr. John Danborge(?) one hundred pounds which were in the hands of Mrs. Mandie widow provided that out of that hundred pounds "he paies these legacies." He also bequeathed to this legatee "one blackcloake and brooches" excepted in the bequest to his landlady Mrs. Howland. Residue to his loving friend John Eaton also named as executor. Therefore, Humphrey Howland's daughter, Anne Howland was not mentioned in the will of William Harbert in 1649.

However, her stepmother, Ann Howland mentioned her in her will, which was written on 10 December 1653 and proved on 22 November 1654, and she bequeathed her daughter, Hanson, 10 shillings to buy a ring. She must have referred Hanson to her older stepdaughter, Anne (Howland) Hanson.

This probate record did prove that she was alive in 1654, so she died sometime after 1654.
