Biography

John Hoyt was born on March 28, 1663 at Salisbury, Massachusetts, son of John and Mary (Barnes) Hoyt. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

He married Elizabeth Challis c 1685. Elizabeth was the daughter of Philip and Mary (Sargent ) Challis.^[3]

John's father deeded him land in Jamaica, (formerly West Amesbury) in 1686. ^[2]

He died intestate on August 24, 1691. ^{[4] [2]}

After his death widow Elizabeth married second, John Blaisdell. ^{[4] [5] [3]}

John Blaisdell was appointed guardian of the minor children, Lydia and Daniel Hoyt on March 29, 1699. ^[2]

On November 22, 1720, an agreement of the distribution of the lands John Hoyt's estate was reached between Joseph Blaisdell, and his wife Elizabeth, previous wife of John Hoyt, Daniel Hoyt and Joseph and Lydia Quinby, which was accepted and allowed by the court on September 26, 1722. ^[6]

1. Lydia born on June 15, 1686; married Joseph Quinby Jr., intentions published on July 10, 1717. ^{[4] [2]}
2. Mary born on March 5, 1687/8 ^[4]; probably died young as she is not mentioned in the appointment of a guardian 1699.^[2]
3. Daniel born on March 2, 1689/90; married Sarah Rowell, intentions published on December 9, 1710. Sarah died on January 2, 1729 and he married second, Elisabeth Baxter on July 24, 1729. Daniel died on March 3, 1742/3. ^[4] His tombstone is still to be seen in the West Amesbury cemetery. ^[2]
