Francis was born in Hlucin, Civitow, Superior Silesia. He married Catherine Juraszczyk Mathys after her husband's death, on 11 Nov 1873. Francis immigrated to New York on 19 April 1876 on the S.S. Pommerania. Catherine and her younger two daughters Pauline and Julia came shortly thereafter, arriving on 6 September 1876. Her two elder daughters, Maria/Mary and Franciszka/Frances arrived with their husbands and families in July 1880, after which they all moved west to La Salle, Ill., where Francis was a laborer. Catherine and Francis resided at 502 Eleventh St. and were members of St. Hyacinth’s Church. Francis died at the age of 45 from consumption (tuberculosis). He and Catherine are buried in the Schalla-Hudak family plot in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery, La Salle, Ill.
