Mary was baptised in Charlbury, Oxfordshire on 3rd October 1823[1]. She was the daughter of George and Charlotte. Her father stated on the register that he was a servant and that the family were living in Charlbury at the time.
George Cross and Mary Huckin were married after banns in Shorthampton, Oxfordshire on 26th September 1855[2]. They were both of full age. George was a widower, working in London City Infirmary, living in Twickenham and the son of James Cross who was a labourer. Mary was a spinster living in Shorthampton and the daughter of George Huckin who was a groom. George signed his own name on the register whilst Mary could only make her mark with a cross[3].
