General Affidavit of Mehitable Hotaling cira 1883

General Affidavit
State of Illinois
County of Boone

In the matter of the Pension Claim of Mehitable Hotaling as mother of A. W. Seibert, Priv. Of Co. “B” 95 Ill. Inft. Personally came before me, a Clerk of the Circuit Court, in and for a foresaid County and State Mehitable Hotaling, aged 71 years citizen of the City of Belvidere, County of Boone, State of Illinois, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to aforesaid case, as follows: That her actual residence in the year 1864 was in the town of Flora in the County of Boone and State of Illinois and that her Post Office address was Belvidere County and State aforesaid, and that her residence and P.O. address remained the same until the year 1872 at which time she with her present husband removed to Belvidere Boone Co., Ill. where she has since resided. That her family in 1864 consisted of William Hotaling her present husband aged 52 years, Samuel H. Tyler aged 31 years, was married and had a family, Ephriam A. Tyler aged 29 married and had a family (died in the service Sept. 5, 1864) William N. Tyler aged 26 years, married and had a family. Albert W. Seebert aged 19 years, single (died in the service and for which pension is asked) and Amanda Hotaling aged 12 years and that she was married to William B. Seebert in 1843 (said Seebert being her second husband) and that said Seebert died sometime in the year 1848 prior to the death of her said son A .W. Seebert: that she was married to William Hotaling in 1850 (said Hotaling being her 3rd husband) and that in the year 1864 said Hotaling was and his now her husband. And Affiant further states that her present husband was in the year 1864 and prior to the time the owner of 120 acres of farm land, but that said lands were heavily mortgaged and that at the time of the enlisting and for several years prior thereto he the said A. W. Seebert took almost the entire charge of the farm and was looked to as the support and maintenance of herself and her husband and daughter, and that at the death of their said A. W. Seebert, it left them without help and that they could not by their own labor support themselves and pay interest on the incumbrances upon their farm, and that they were obliged to sell their farm and buy a small home in Belvidere, Ill. And that their whole income during all the time since the death of her said son A. W. Seebert has not exceeded $300 per year and some years not that. That said Seebert helped in the support of herself and family by his labor and in the management of their said farm. And Affiant further states that her said husband in the year 1872 sold his farm to one Wm H. Albright for the sum of $5100.00 less the incumbrances upon said farm which did left but little more than enough buy their small house with about 2 acres of land and that their whole support has been and is now derived from the proceeds of said two acres of land and the interest on $1000 at 6% except what she has been able to earn by sewing and as canvassing Agent for Books which she was obliged to do to assist in the support of herself and husband, but that on account of her age and poor health she is not now able to assist in the support of herself or husband.[8][2]
