Biography

Emily Hufacker was probably born about 1830 in Tennessee, the daughter of Isaac Huffaker and Sallie (1880 US Census)

Her first husband was Isaac Joseph McSpadden (death certificate of William A McSpadden), When this marriage ended is unknown at this time. They had 2 children - Sarah b. 1850 and William A McSpadden b. 1853 (1860 US Census)

She married David C P Clark sometime in 1858 as in the US Census for 1900, they are listed as having been married 42 years. They are living together in 1860, with her 2 children from her previous marriage.

Emily & David had 5 children together, Mitchel L, Lucy A, Isaac O, Mary A & Robert Randolph.

Mrs. David C. P. Clark died January 16, 1917. She was born March 27, 1820.

Since the death of her husband in 1906, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Gordon Harris. She went to visit Mrs. S. J. Howard, a daughter by a former marriage, and contracted a severe cold and only lived two weeks.

Mrs. Clark was a second cousin of Gen. Robt. E. Lee, as her grandmother and Robt. E. Lee's father were brother and sister. She was a daughter of the late Isaac Huffaker, who bought a farm three miles north of Tunnel Hill, and settled there which the Indians were in this country. While a little girl, she played with the Indian children and loved them, she always loved little children, and they loved her.

When quite a young girl, she joined the Methodist church, but about thirty-five years ago she united with the Baptist church with her husband at Tunnel Hill. She was a devoted wife and mother, a true Christian and a loyal friend.

She counted her friends by her acquaintances.

Two or three days before she died she said she wanted to go and be with her loved ones in Heaven.

Beside a host of relatives and friends she leaves the following children to mourn her loss:

Mrs. S. J. Howard, of Dalton; W. A. McSpadden, of Ringgold; M. L. and R. R. Clark, of Tunnel Hill; Mrs. Gordon Harris, of Dalton, and Mrs. C. N. Brown, of Calhoun.

Her funeral was conducted by the Rev. C. C. Maples, at the Baptist church in Tunnel Hill, interment being made in the cemetery there.
