Biography

Eleazar HUFF (3 Jan 1782 Washington Co, PA - 13 Apr 1836 Highland Co, OH) was the son od Michael Huff Jr. and Hannah Dodderidge

In 1808 in Jefferson Co, OH, he married Esther MOONEY (21 Aug 1786 VA - 20 June 1880 Highland County, Ohio[1]), daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (TAYLOR) MOONEY. They started their family in Short Creek Twp of Jefferson and Harrison counties, but moved to Highland County before 1820.

Their 9 ch incl:

  1. Benjamin F. (19 June 1809 Harrison Co, OH - 26 May 1824, in 15th year.)
  2. Baldwin (6 Apr 1811 OH - 6 Mar 1897 Highland County, Ohio [2]), on 20 Aug 1835 in Highland County, OH, married Margaret REECE, and their children included: Esther E.; Lewis E.; Hannah; Herman F.; Adeline; Matilda; and Eliza Amanda. Baldwin and his brother Joseph were original members of the Universalist Church in Centerfield, OH.
  3. Eleazar (12 Dec 1813 OH - 24 Oct 1904 OH), buried unmarried in Greenfield cemetery.
  4. Lewis (17 Apr 1818 Highland Co, OH - may have died by 1841).
  5. Eliza Amanda (12 Oct 1819 OH - ) on 27 Feb 1840 married Dr. Enos HOLMES. She joined Baldwin in suing mother Esther and the other children.
  6. Hannah (23 June 1823 - 12 Dec 1891 MO, buried in Keytesville, MO) On 2 Aug 1841 married Thomas J. LITTLER, and moved to Keytesville, MO. LITTLER ch incl:
  7. Julia Ann (1830 OH - ) on 9 Aug 1851 md John M. LITTLER, son of John L. LITTLER, and their LITTLER ch incl:
  8. Joseph (27 Nov 1825 - 6 Jul 1910) md three times, all in Highland Co, OH. He md (1) on 6 Mar 1849 Rachel ANDERSON, and she had one ch: Rebecca A. He md (2) on 18 Dec 1852 Ruth BARRETT, and her six ch incl Robert Fulton; Rachel; Horace; Sidney; and Louis E. He md (3) on 6 Sep 1873 Anna Eliza REYNOLDS, and she had Ettie; Elva; Cora; and Carlton.
  9. Hermanus (1815 OH - 30 July 1830, in 15th year).

In 1841, Baldwin HUFF and Eliza A. HOLMES filed a suit against Esther HUFF, the mother, and siblings Eleazar, Jr; Hannah LITTLER; Joseph; and Julianna. This may indicate that there were only six surviving children in 1841 who were adults.

In 1850, there was a farm laborer listed as Charles Lewellen. It appeared that he was a HUFF, but there is no family traditon that this was the case. He was probably Charles LEWELLEN (1834 OH).
