THE HUFF FAMILY
Part 1: Early History
There has been a disagreement among Huff researchers in the Virginia-Kentucky area, as to the lineage of Isaac Huff and Elisha Huff of Harlan County, KY. Also, some researchers do not accept that these two were brothers. I offer supporting data found among handwritten notes of several of the oldest family members in Kentucky.
Among the possessions of the late William Arthur Creech, son of Mary Elizabeth Huff Creech, were found several notes referring to this Huff ancestors. One states, “My Grandfather Huff was Caleb Huff, who was 18 years old in 1860, one year before the Civil War. He served as a soldier in the War. His father was Isaac Huff, whose father was Charlie Huff and his father was William Huff.” Along the left margin of this note, William Arthur Creech wrote:
“Keep this. The note Uncle John D. Huff gave me is pinned to this letter”.
Another note reads, “John D. Huff – his great great grandfather was William Huff of North Carolina. His great grandfather was Charley Huff of Big Stone Gap, Virginia and his grandfather was Isaac Huff of Cumberland, KY.”

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Caleb by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Caleb:
