Biography

William HUFF, Jr. (c 1785 VA - d before 20 Jan 1848 Mercer Co, KY) was the son of William and Mary (Hungate) Huff.

He may have married twice.

On 21 Nov 1808 in Mercer Co, KY, one William HUFF md Mildred BARNES[1], dau of William and Elizabeth BARNES. Nothing else is known about this couple.

On 15 Apr 1811 in Mercer Co, KY, William HUFF md Abigail HALE[2] ( ) dau of John and Mary HALE. Surety was Joseph HALE. (Mercer Co Deed Book 12, p 276 identifies bride to be dau of John and Mary.)

William and his mother administered the estate of William HUFF, Sr, and their names appear often in the records of Mercer Co. In 1818, William, Jr, apparently got the Chaplin Fork land that William HUFF, Sr, had purchased from James RENTFROE. On 29 Sep 1834, William and Abigail conveyed to Samuel HUFF about 50 acres which William HUFF had purchased from John HUNGATE. After William died, the land where he lived apparently went to his brother, Samuel HUFF. Those who conveyed their interest in the land were:

From Grayson Co, KY: Henry HAYNES, James T. TILFORD and his wife Sarah, Farmer DEWEESE and his wife Nancy.

From Hancock Co, KY: Charles L. HAYNES, Jesse HAYNES, William BANNON, Lewis HUFF, James BANNON, John BANNON, Polly HUFF (wife of LEWIS), George BROOKS and his wife Elizabeth, John HAYNES, Hardin HAYNES, and William HAYNES.

  • From Daviess Co, KY: Samuel HAYNES.
  • From Jefferson Co, KY: Josiah E. HAYNES.
  • From Boyle Co, KY: Hannah WILLIS.
  • From Gibson Co, IN: John ERWIN and his wife Polly.

(The above is not the complete list and MAINLY shows the HAYNES connections.)

Lineage is William and Abigail (Hale) of VA and KY; William and Mary (Hungate) of VA and KY;
