Biography

Juanita M Heflin died Feb. 3, 2001, at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville after a long illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY., in 1916, she was the daughter of George Huffman and Hazel Miller, both of Niagara Falls. Having grown up in the family photo finishing busines, she went on to make photography the greater part of her life, first will the Bell Aircraft Corp. during World War II, where she was both a laboratory technician and a photographer of aeronautical mishaps, and later at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. Her clearance to deal with classified material led to her working in Washington D.C. for a film which held government contracts, including the White House. Her late husband Leo George Heflin, worked at the same time for the U.S. dept. of Agriculture in Marketing and Statistics. Upon his retirement in the late 1980's they both decided that they wished to return to the North and the relative peace of New York's Southern Tier. Heflin is survived by her only son, William R (Dolores) MacCrea; two grandsons, Rory and Kevin MacCrea, and five great grandsons, Fion, Colin, Alexander, Lee, and Duncan MacCrea. All of the survivors live in Alfred, NY. In accordance with her instructions, there was no viewing or burial. A Celtic Christian memorial service was attended by family and close friends on the last sabbath at the family home onWaterwells Road in Alfred. There will be a grave side service at a later date when her ashes are committed to the earth, next to the grave of her husband in the Alfred Rural Cemetery.
