Biography

Martha Maria Huffman was born March 20, 1878 in Hickory, CatawbaCounty, NorthCarolina. She was the daughter of Jefferson Huffman and Frances Hunt. ^[1]

Martha Huffman married Nezur Monroe Newton on August 18, 1897 in Catawba County ^[2]and together they had nine children:

1. Emma Estelle ( 1898 - 1963)
2. Reuel David (1899 - 1944)
3. Essie Pearl (1901 - 2004)
4. Frances Grace (1904 - 1994)
5. Margaret Elmina (1906 - 1998)
6. Vivian Rebecca ( 1908 - 1993)
7. Mary Katherine (1910 - 1959)
8. Morgan Monroe (1915 - 1996)
9. Ernest Lowell (1917 - 1986)

She passed away September 1, 1957 from "myocardial degeneration (due to) arteriosclerosis"^[3] and was buried September 2nd^[4]at Saint Stephen's Lutheran ECLA Cemetery in Hickory. ^[5]
