Biography

Tacy Ann was born in 1854 in Doddridge County, Virginia (present day West Virginia), probably near Zinnia to the east of New Milton where her family was farming. She was the fourth child and third-born daughter of Sylvester Hughes and Delila Ann Fitz Randolph. Her father died when Tacy Ann was 10 years old. She married Civil War veteran [[Day-xx|Solomon Dale Day] in 1871 in Doddridge County, (now) WV. She joined him on his farm in West Milford in Harrison County, WV, where they raised six children together, one of which died young. Tacy Ann died in 1910 and is buried in Mount Olive Cemetery in the Greenbrier area in Doddridge County, WV.

• Tacy Ann's birth record cites Buckeye, Pocohantas, WV, but this is clearly a transcription error since the birth register is for Doddridge County and Buckeye, Pocohantas is far to the south. Buckeye Creek and Indian Fork join in the Greenbrier area in Doddridge County, and other family records cite that area, including Zinnia.
