Obituary of Henry HUNTER:

Henry Hunter died at his residence in Springhill township, Fayette county, Pa., October 2d, 1889. He was born in Chester county, Pa., in 1806. His father, Hiram Hunter, came from near Warwick Furnace, Chester county, Pa., to Fayette in 1820. Hiram’s wife was Margaret, eldest daughter of Lewis Ashenfelter, of Montgomery county, Pa. The Ashenfelter’s were German’s of distinguished ancestry, and emigrated to America before the Revolutionary War. In 1824, Hiram Hunter, with his wife and six children, moved to Kentucky. There Mrs. Hunter and two of her sons died and are buried. The other members of the family soon removed to Fayette county, and some of them went to their early home in Chester county, where one daughter died and was buried at St. Mary’s church. Henry Hunter remained in Chester county but a short time after returning, when he came back to Fayette, which was his home from that time until his death. Hiram Hunter, two of his sons and one daughter are buried in Fayette county. The only member of Hiram Hunter’s family living is Mrs. A. Elizabeth Holmes, wife of John Holmes, Esq., of Uniontown, who is in her 80th year, and altho in rather feeble health, her mind is as bright as ever. The father of Hiram Hunter was John Hunter, who is buried at Mineholes church graveyard, in Chester county. He was a prominent Mason, and a monument erected by the Masonic fraternity, marks his grave. John’s wife was Phebe O’Neal, who lived several years after his death, and died in 1817 in Philadelphia, where she was buried. Henry Hunter, the late deceased, was an industrious, honorable man. He willed all of his property to his nephew, Lewis Hunter, Jun. who is his executor.

Genius of Liberty, Uniontown, PA, October 10, 1889
