Ed. P. Hutchinson, 76, Resident Here 60 Years, Died from Heart Attack[1]
Ed. P Hutchinson, 76, and for more than 60 years a resident of the Saratoga area, died suddenly about 9:30 o'clock this morning. In the company of two local friends he was enroute by car to Rawlins, and apparently suffered a heart attack about 2 miles from town. He was immediately returned to town, but was dead before medical help could be summoned. Relatives here report that his death was entirely unexpected, as he had apparently been enjoying excellent health, and appeared to be feeling his usual self when he departed this morning. With Bob Hunter and another local man he was to have served as a pallbearer at the funeral of Enoch Marple in Rawlins this morning.
Edward Parker Hutchinson was born April 14, 1881, in Harwood, MO, and moved to this valley with his parents. In 1890 he was married to Miss Lillie Swanson in Saratoga in 1904. His wife preceded him in death in 1931, when the family was operating a ranch on South Spring Creek.
Since his arrival in the Platte Valley with his parents in 1890 Mr. Hutchinson had made his home in the area continuously except for a short period spent in Montana when he was employed as a fireman on the Northern Pacific Railroad. Some 40 years ago he took up ranching in the Spring Creek section, and a short time later moved to Lake Creek where for a period of about 15 years he operated what is now the Frank Schilt ranch. In 1928 he moved his family to South Spring Creek when he purchased what is now the Glenn Wilson ranch. He operated this ranch for 13 years, until 1941, when he sold the place to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clayburn, and moved to Saratoga. After leaving the ranch he spent several years employed at various occupations over the Valley, until a few years ago when he retired.
He is survived by three sons, Ed. P. Hutchinson Jr., of Casper, Wyo.; Richard J. Hutchinson of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and Carl I. Hutchinson of Saratoga; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Allen of Saratoga, and one brother, Fred Hutchinson of Mead, Wash. Also five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert Palmer will be in charge of the services, and the Rasmusson-Shriner Mortuary of Rawlins is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Saratoga Cemetery.
The family requests that instead of flowers, contributions be made to the Presbyterian Church Memorial fund.
