Note NI03063Known as Bob, he was brought up and educated at Pareora West School (14 Sep 1891 - 21 Jul 1899). (Ref: School Admission Records NZSG Index CD 2003).

After training as a blacksmith, he was employed on Canterbury farms for many years, notably at Hakataramea Station in South Canterbury.

During World War I he served in the 1st NZ Expeditionary Force (No. 38959) where his skills with horses were employed. One record states that he saw action in Gallipoli and on the Western Front (France). While on leave he visited his father's home town, Troon, Ayrshire.

Bob was keen on horse racing and cricket and was apparently an accomplished cyclist in his younger days.

In retirement Bob lived with sisters Marion and Mary at 154 North Street, Timaru. He frequently visited married siblings and was a welcome visitor at the home of younger brother William (Bill / Willie) in Greymouth.

Bob's Will can be seen in the National Archives in Christchurch.
