Biography

William Josephus Hutton was born October 21, 1802, in Abbeville, South Carolina, a son of Joseph Hutton and Nancy Agnes Calhoun.

William married Ann Callaway on 20 March 1826 in Greene, Alabama, United States.[1] Together they had at least 6 children:

  1. Nancy Rebecca Hutton
  2. Cornelius Marion Hutton
  3. Leonidas G. Hutton
  4. Milton Calhoun Hutton
  5. William Josephus Hutton
  6. Mary Elizabeth Hutton

He was recorded in the 1830 census with his wife and family in Greene, Alabama.[2]

In the 1850 census William (age 47), Farmer, was living with his wife and 4 children in Greene, Alabama, United States.[3] On his farm were 36 slaves, 23 males ages 1-48 and 13 females ages 0-41.[4]

In the 1860 census W (age 57), Planter, was in Clinton, Greene, Alabama with his wife and one son.[5]

William died (age 59) on May 12, 1862, in Greene, Alabama, United States. (see research notes) [6] He was buried in the Clinton cemetery, in Greene county.[7]

  • death date on American Revolution application is two years different than the date on Findagrave. It's unclear which one is correct
