Ernie Hynes was a centenarian, living to age 100.

Ernest was born in 1909. He was the son of John Hynes and Lucy Ryan. He passed away in 2010.

HYNES, Ernest Francis — Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving and devoted family at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on January 8, 2010, just 18 days before his 101st birthday, Ernest Hynes of Ferryland. Reunited with his loving wife, Stella and infant daughter, Mona; his father and mother, John Joe and Lucy; his brothers, Howard (Angela), Vince (Annie), Tom and Clarence; his sister-in-law, Laura Croft and his cherished son-in-law, Peter. Also his brothers-in-law, Pat Cleary, Bill Maddock and Wilf McKinnon and sister-in-law, Georgina Hynes. As well, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Catherine Croft; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ned and Mary Croft, Charles and Mathilda Croft, Harold Croft, Beatrice and Anthony Stone, Floss and Anthony O'Brien, and Sarah and Jimmy Walsh. Sadly left to mourn with cherished and wonderful memories of this amazing and gentle family man are his loving children, Loyola (Dorothy), Sylvia (Allie), Clarence (Patsy), Florence (Junior), Sheila and his youngest and very devoted daughter, Edwina with whom he resided. Also feeling a tremendous loss are his beloved grandchildren, Craig Hynes (Brenda, Kellen and Shea), Melanie Hynes (Ray and Alex), Krista Chidley (Gerry, Liam, Luke and Alexa), Karen Hynes (Stephen), Shalyn Kavanagh (Darrell, Nickolas and Evan), Tommy Walsh (Harmony), Ted Hynes (Shawna, Michael and Adam), Terry Walsh (Vanessa), Jonathan Walsh (Jennifer), Joey Hynes (Janell and Lily) and Elizabeth Walsh (Darcy). Also very sadly mourned by his brothers, Aiden (Edna) and Peter (Veronica), sisters, Rita Maddock, Cecilia McKinnon and Marie Cleary, special nephews, Elroy (Maureen) and Gerald(Mary), special niece, Sister Rosaline, sisters-in-law, Nellie Hynes, Mary Hynes and Madonna Croft, many nieces and nephews and a very large circle of family and friends. Resting at Fahey's Funeral Home, Fermeuse. Visitation on Sunday, January 10th and Monday, January 11th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Holy Trinity Church, Ferryland at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12th. Interment to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ferryland.
