Ennis/Innis/Enes in Tn and Ky By cathryn b June 01, 1999 at 06:29:09 Looking for parents and grandparents of James Abrahan Innis b. 10-14-1860 d. 11-17-1935 in Clinton Cty, Ky, md. Luch J. Riddle b. 2-17-1866 d. 1907 in Clinton cty, Ky. On the 1870 Clinton Cty census, we find Ella listed as Nellie Enes age 44 b. Tn, with children John M. age 11 b. Tn, James A. age 9, Madison age 6 b. Ky, Eliza Ann age 4 b. Ky, and Richard age 2 b. Ky.Next door are John H. Enes age 70 b. Tn, wife Nancy age 48 b. Ky, and Cornelius Hay age 8 b. Ky.This Nancy is probably a second wife to John Enes.In 1880, the three youngest children are shown living with grandmother Nancy Enes. This would lead one to believe that both Ella (Nellie) their mother and John Enes (grandfather?) have both died between 1870 and 1880.Wm. Madison Innis went to Iowa, and on his death certificate father is listed as Uhal Innis. On the death certificate of James Abraham Innis parents are shown as Ural Innis and Ella Lay.Eliza Ann md. Jacob Outen in 1882 Clinton Cty.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Ennis/Innis/Enes in Tn and Ky By K I June 03, 2008 at 07:59:43

If the e-mail isn't valid anymore, I hope you eventually read this.My family consisted of the William and Jacob Ennis/Innis/Iness that were in Roane County TN in 1830, and toward the late 30's left for Arkansas with the father, William Ennis Sr.I notice that one of the sons of Nelly Enes in Clinton Co., KY was a Richard Enes, Richard H on the 1880 census. My predecessor was a Richard Houston Iness. My predecessor had a sister named Minerva, which I notice that Thomas Enes (1870, Clinton Co., KY, same page) had a daughter Manerva. The name and county commonality was too much to pass up.If you see this, a DNA test by a male of the Innis surname from that line should confirm it - I've already tested, and match another Innis in Virginia that's too far back to trace by paper.

Hello K: Glad I came acrossed your posting. My mothers maiden name was Innis and I believe the person that you responded to is a relative of mine. I've just ordered a 37 marker test for my uncle T B Innis. He don't know it yet so I might have to twist his arm. He was born 8-25-1934. His father was Tilford Bell Innis sr. born 11-8-1892 Wayne co., KY.. His father was William Mattison Innis born 12-25-1862 Clinton co., KY.. His father was James Ewell Innis born abt. 1830. His father was John H. Enes born about 1804 TN. died after 1870 KY. married a Nancy. I personaly belong to the Williams DNA Project and have had very good luck with that. My uncle is the last living male of his generation and figured I'd better get the Innis DNA done. I have my tree on Roots Web's World Connection. If you go there and punch in surname as Innis and given name as Tilford Bell you should be able to bring up my grandfather. I haven't worked on my Innis family in several years. My mother told me once that my old old Innis family were suposed to have been Sailors for a living in Ireland. Whether or not that is true is up in the air, passed down by word of mouth for several generations. Hope fully in a couple of months we will learn that we are cousins. Dan Williams Mahaska co., IA.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
