Margaret's birth date and place and parents are not known. Based on son George's baptism in 1779, Margaret was probably born before about 1762. Four records of baptisms of Margaret Innis in Northumberland in 1730-1765 were found in ancestry.com, but as is always the case there is no assurance that there were no other such baptisms that were not recorded or whose record is not in ancestry.com. The first was 19 January 1734 in Chillingham, [1] and she would have been about 45 years old when George was baptized and 62 when his sister Hannah was baptized and for this reason is rejected as George's mother. The second was in Felton, which is about 24miles north of Ovingham, and was on 1 April 1753, [2] and she would have been about 25 years old when George was baptized. The third was in Newcastle Upon Tyne, which is about 10 miles east of Ovingham, on 10 April 1757, [3] making her about 21 when George was baptized. The fourth was in Corbridge, about 6 miles west of Ovingham, on 8 December 1765, [4] and she would have been only 13 or 14 when George was baptized and unlikely to have been his mother. Thus, there are at least two Margaret Innis' that could have been George's mother but no basis for determining which, if either, was the mother.[5]
