Biography

Lizzie (Irwin) Caldwell was born in Ireland.

Elizabeth was baptised 22 March 1859 ^[1][2][3] at Loughaghry Presbyterian Church in County Down, Ireland (this could be wrong - it may be another Elizabeth as the fathers name is spelled Erwin instead of Irwin and the mother's first name, neither Margaret nor Lavinia is given to confirm it is the same family) and was the daughter of John Irwin and Lavinia Forsythe.^{[4] [5]} She married William Caldwell at First Limavady Presbyterian Church in Newtown Limavady, Co. Londonderry Northern Ireland on 20 July 1875, her father John Irwin, Carpenter, is listed but he was not in attendance as he had died by 1872 at the latest ^[6] She passed away at 42 Whamond Street in 1926 in Dalziel, Motherwell, Scotland.^[7][8] Elizabeth's parents are John Irwin and a female Forsythe on her baptismal record, her Scottish marriage record says her parents are John Irwin and Lavina Forsythe, and my cousin Margaret Berry Irvine has Elizabeth's address at 42 Whammond street in her address book.

Eliza's children, all born in Motherwell Scotland, were William Caldwell born 1877, John Caldwell born 1878, Margaret (Maggie) Caldwell born 1881, Lavinia Caldwell born 1883 (this is the same "Cousin Lavinia" mentioned in Jennie's Letter: see Jennie Kinsella), Thomas Caldwell born 1885, Isaac Caldwell born 1887, and Samuel Caldwell born 1891. ^[9][10][11]

Interestingly, she was living in Motherwell in 1875, and seems to have come back to Ulster to marry William Caldwell.^[12]
