Biography

Margaret's baptism record has not been found, and her date of birth is estimated from her husband and children's ages. Her children's baptism records contain many different spellings of her surname, including Allice, Izles and Iles.

A marriage record for George Hog and Margaret Isles has not been found. They had several children:

• Isobell Hoog born 12 June 1754 at Tonguies, Dunfermline^[4]
• Alexander Hoog baptised 3 May 1756 in Dunfermline^[5]
• George Hoog baptised 3 May 1756 in Dunfermline^[6]
• Alison Hog born 28 Jan 1758 at Tonguies, Dunfermline^[7]
• Grezel Hog born 4 Mar 1760 at Tonguies, Dunfermline^[8]
• Helen Hogg born 5 Jul 1766 in Bussess, Saline, Fife^[9]

According to the children's baptism records, the family lived at Tonguies (not found, but near Balmule outside Dunfermline) from 1750 to 1760. By 1766 the family had moved to neighbouring Saline parish where they lived at Bussess (place not located).
