SHERIFF WALTER E. JACKSON, Clarke County, Ga.

Walter E. Jackson, the popular Sheriff of Clarke County, Georgia is now serving his third consecutive term and is the third sheriff that Clarke County has had in sixty years. There is probably no better known man in Clarke County than Sheriff Jackson, a native Georgian. He was born in Oglethorpe County, September 23, 1877. At the age of eight year he entered the schools of Oconee County, going from there to Athens, where he attended the public schools, finishing there in 1893. After completing his schooling he returned to Oconee County, where he resumed farming, which he conducted until 1898, at which time be enlisted in the Spanish-American war and was elected Corporal of Company G, 2nd Georgia Infantry. After the volunteers were discharged he was elected a member of the police force of Athens, Ga., which position he served faithfully for seven years, being nominated for Sheriff of Clark County he resigned from the police force and was elected Sheriff in 1908. Mr. Jackson is connected with many of the oldest families of Georgia and is a prominent member of the B. P. O. E. and has a wide acquaintance throughout the state. In his friendship one can count himself as being the possessor of a valuable asset. He has always been a lifelong democrat and can be relied upon at all time to work hard for the parties' interest.^[2]
