Given that James was married in Dec 1823, and assuming that was his first marriage and he was then a young man, it is estimated he was born about 1800, presumably in Scotland. [1]
Marriage Banns were proclaimed for James and Hannah Hodkinson in December 1823. At that time, they were both living at 7 Dalrymple Place, Edinburgh. His occupation was noted as Flesher [Butcher or Meat Seller]. [1] [2] [3]
Five or six children were born to James and Hannah between 1824 and 1840. (John Jamieson, who resided with Hannah in 1841, has not been confirmed.)
Since James did not appear in the 1841 Scotland Census with his wife Hannah and their children, it is suspected that he died before then.
To date (02 Nov 2019), no birth, baptism, census, or death records have been located for James. (Searches have been conducted on Scotland's People and Ancestry.com.)
No parents have been identified for James.
James is named as the bride's father in the civil marriage records of his daughters Ann, , and as the groom's father in the Nebraska Marriage License of his son David.
James was noted "Deceased" in the 1855 Civil Marriage Record of his daughter Ann, where his occupation was noted as "Flesher" (as it was on James's Marriage Proclamation).[1]
