Biography

Margaret was the daughter of Jonathan Jarrett and Sarah Anderson She was born in Kanawha Co, VA/WV. After moving to Sangamon Co, IL with her parents ca 1828, she married Hamilton Roan Morris on Aug 12, 1830 in Sangamon Co, IL The 1850 Sangamon Co, IL census lists their children:

"History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon Co, IL" MARGARET, born Feb. 15, 1810, in West Virginia, married in Sangamon county to Rowan Morris; had eight children, and moved to Dallas county, Texas."

The following is from the Findagrave entry for Margaret's husband, Hamilton Morris:

Hamilton moved with his parents from Cabell County, VR (WV) to Christian County, KY between 1815-1820. The family is listed in the 1820 Christian County, KY Census.

When Hamilton's uncles, William Droddy Morris and John Morris, Jr. moved to Sangamon County, Illinois from Virginia about 1825 Hamilton may have joined them there. The Jarrett family also came to Illinois from the Cabell/Kanawha County, VR area. Hamilton married Mary Margaret Jarrett August 12, 1830, in Sangamon County, Illinois.

Until the 1850's Hamilton and Mary made their home in Sangamon County, IL, all of their children were born there. Their children: William Estill born 1831; Edmond born 1833; Mordecai born 1834; Achilles born 1837; Hamilton Rowan born 1838; Thomas Asbury born 1840; Virginia Catherine born 1842; Rebecca Elvira born 1843; Leah born 1844; Mary Margaret born 1848; Jonathan born 1850 and George H born 1852.

From an online source about son Thomas Asbury Morris included in writings about Confederate soldiers in Rawlins Cemetery, Dallas County Texas--

The family moved to Dallas County, Texas in 1852. "After a few years, Rowan, being a lover of the frontier moved his family on west to Veal Station, north of Weatherford in Parker County. When the Indians would make trouble, the family would move to the Desoto community for a few months and then go back to Parker County. In 1866, Rowan returned the family to Dallas County."

The 1870 Dallas County, TX Census lists Hamilton Morris, 63, a school teacher, wife Margaret, 61, and son George, 18. Next door is son Edmond Morris, 38, farmer, wife Mary, 33, with nine children ages 10 months to 16.

In the 1880 Parker County, Texas Census Hamilton(HR), 73, and Margaret, 70, are living with son Jonathon Mate (MJ), 29, his wife, Mary Hannah Woody (MH), 22, and their daughters Millie, 2, and Lavine, 2 months. Hamilton has been unemployed for a year and has a "Lame Hip."
