Biography
No baptism record has been found for Richard. His father was named as William on his marriage record to Maria. In the 1861 census his birth seems to have been a guess. His death record (supported by age at marriage) points to 1825.
In 1846 Richard married Maria Wheeler in Lydbrook. Richard was a Collier living in Lydbrook. His father was William, also a Collier. Maria's father Thomas Wheeler was a Blacksmith. [1] Maria died aged 29 in 1857. She had been living at Lydbrook.
Richard married again to Elizabeth, the couple baptised 2 children, Elizabeth in 1860 and Joseph in 1864.
In 1861 Richard and Elizabeth were living in Upper Lydbrook with 4 children. Presumably neither parents were there when the census enumerator came around as their birth is overstated by about 15 years and both have location of birth listed as 'not known'. Perhaps young 10 year old Richard was providing the answers. [2]
Richard died aged 63 in 1888. He had been living at Trafalgar Colliery in Lydbrook. He was buried in Drybrook on 22nd March. [3]
