Elijah Jeffers was one of five men appointed trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in Bazette on June 13, 1855. The Jeffers remained active in the church as long as they lived. The original church was made of logs and split logs made the seats. The church continued under the above name until the charter members died. It later became Prairie Point Church.
