Biography

Guy was born in 1903 at Oneida in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of William Jeffers and Emily Duncan. He married Anna Pearl Fortner in March of 1929.[1]He passed away Wednesday, June 5, 1968 at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida.

Guy C. Jeffers, County Attorney, Dies: Services Fri. - Guy C. Jeffers, prominent Oneida attorney, church and civic leader, died early Wednesday morning at the Scott County Hospital. He was 65. Mr. Jeffers, who was serving his sixteenth year as County Attorney, had been in ill health for the past several months. He joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1914, later moving his letter to the First Baptist Church, Oneida, where he was ordained a Deacon in 1937 and was elected Chairman of the Board of Deacons in 1945, a position he held until his death. Mr. Jeffers was a member of the Scott County Bar Association, Masonic Lodge 695 F&AM, served 10 years as Clerk of the New River Baptist Association and earlier this year received a 25 year pin as appeal agent for the local selective service board. He was also a vice president and director of the Oneida Bank and Trust Company. In 1934, he and his brother, O. E. formed the law firm of Jeffers and Jeffers. O. E. preceded his brother in death. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ann Fortner Jeffers, Oneida; 3 sons, Ralph W. Jeffers, Don Curtis Jeffers and Harold G. Jeffers, all of Oneida; 2 daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Jean West of Chattanooga, Ruth Ann of Oneida; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Laxton also of Oneida. 5 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the First Baptist Church 1 p.m. today (Friday) with the Rev. Philip Kazee and Rev. Lewis Bratcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Jeffers cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Pall bearers are James Cotton, Richard Smith, George Plumlee, Blain Claiborn, Ozro Keeton, and Sam Justice. Members of the Scott County Bar Association and the Board of Deacons of the Oneida First Baptist Church, will serve as honorary pallbearers. Arrangements by West Funeral Home.
