Anne Jessop was the second wife of an official royal portrait painter Sir William Beechey. They had 16 children, many of whom became accomplished artists or notable in some other way. She was also stepmother to 5 children from her husband's first marriage.
Lady Beechey was a successful miniaturist, painting portraits of the renowned and fashionable members of the society of her time. In an era without photography, small portraits, or miniatures, were highly valued and appreciated by family members.
