Mary Jessup was born on July 12, 1776 in Guilford, North Carolina, daughter of Jacob Jessup (1754–~1832) and Rachel Cook (1757–>1830). [1] The family was Quaker, members of New Garden Monthly Meeting, Guilford, Greensboro, North Carolina. [2]
On 26 Mar 1796, Mary Jessop and Benjamin Hill of Back Creek MM announced their intention to marry while at New Garden Friends Meeting in Guilford. Benjamin was requested to provide a clearance to marry certificate at the next monthly meeting. [3]
Married: 18 May 1796, Mary Jessop married Benjamin Hill in Guilford, Greensboro, North Carolina, their marriage conducted at the Friends New Garden Monthly Meeting. [2][4] They had the following children:
The Hill family lived in Back Creek, Randolph, N. Carolina. [2] They relocated to White Water, Indiana by 1806 with other North Carolina Friends where they farmed and raised their children in the Quaker community. [5]
New Garden MM (Guilford NC); Back Creek MM (Randolph NC); White Water Hicksite MM (Wayne IN)
A previous entry questioned a possible marriage to John Hussey, while living in New Guilford (unsourced). This was her paternal aunt, Mary (Jessup) Hussey, not Mary Jessop of this profile.
A previous entry stated an 1850 residence in Clay, Hamilton, Indiana, however, Mary died in 1808, so this cannot be accurate. [8]
Removed Whitewater MM, official start date after her death, need records of MM in Richmond, Wayne, IN.
