Janet Jinkin is assumed to be the Janet born Lecropt to William Jinkin and Christiian Baird in 1781.[1]
Janet Jenkins & James Black married in Kilmadock, 23 Jun 1816.[2]
In 1841 Janet was liviing with husband James, a blacksmith, in Thornhill, Perthshire, Scotland, along with 2 of their 3 chiildren.[3]
Neither were obvious in the 1851 census.
Research notes
When were James Black & Janet Jenkins born?Henderson-2297
It seems likely that the ages of both James and Janet were considerably understated in the 1841 census, or mistranscribed.
James is shown as 40, Janet as 45.
With a 2nd daughter Mary and first son John, it is possible that James is the James Black baptized Thornhill to John Black and Mary Blair.
With a 1st daughter Christian, possibly Janet is the Janet baptized 1781 to William Jinkin and Christn Baird in Lecropt.
Janet would be about 39 when youngest child John born in 1820.
(Some trees show Janet as the daughter of Williiam Jenkins and Catherine McGibbin, but that Janet, a twin, was born in 1777, Port of Menteith, and would be 43 when John born, and although not fixed, would not fit the naming pattern)
There are two Janet Junkine/ Jenkin etc around in the same timeframe / vicinity
Janet married to James Black in 1816 Kilmadock
Janet married to James Jack in 1811 Port of Menteith
Both appear in the 1841 census with their families
As the Black family includes a first daughter named Christian my assumption is that that Janet is the one baptised to William Jinkin & Christin Baird in 1781, particularly as this baptism is a little earlier than would be expected for a 50 year old in the 1841 census Henderson-2297[4]
