Biography
Charles Richardson Johnson was born on about 17 October 1814[1].
He entered the Navy in 1826, and obtained a sub Lieutenancy in 1834. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1841.
He married Juliana Bredin (the daughter of Major-General Andrew Bredin and Margaret Briscoe) on 17 October 1842 in Malta. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 8 of the Sun (London) dated 10 November 1842:
MARRIED.
On the 17th ult., at Malta, at the Palace Chapel, Charles Richardson Johnson, Lieutenant R.N.. to Julia, daughter of Major-General Bredin, Royal Artillery.[2]
They had at least two children:
Charles Johnson (b. abt. 1844)
Lily Blanche Julia Johnson (b. abt. 1854)
Charles became a Commander in 1847, and Captain in 1856.

Charles Richardson Johnson passed away on 10 April 1882 and was buried on 15 April 1882 at Highland Road Cemetery, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England[5][6][1]. Notice of his death was printed on page 3 of the Bury and Norwich Post dated 18 April 1882:

Portsmouth Evening News, dated 14 April 1881, page 2:
VICE-ADMIRAL CHARLES RICHARSON JOHNSON died on Monday at Southsea, in his 69th year. He entered the Navy in 1826, and obtained a sub lieutenancy in 1834. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 1841, became a commander in 1847, and captain in 1856. The gallant officer commanded the boats of the Princess Charlotte at Gebail, and served on shore in the actions on the coast of Syria and at St. Jean D'Acre. He was also commander of the Transit at the capture of Sebastopol in 1855, for which service he obtained the Crimean and Turkish Medals, and also the Sebastopol clasp. He was placed on the retired list in 1864, was promoted to rear-admiral in 1875, and became a vice-admiral in 1879.[8]
His Will was proved on 12 May 1882 at the Principal Registry by his widow Julia Johnson of Felixstow Villa, the sole Executrix[9]. His Personal Estate was valued at £1,518 6s. 6d.
