Biography

Carl Gustav Johnson was born on May 2, 1839 in Skee parish to Johannes Pehrsson (1816-) and Helena Andersdotter (1813-1856).^[1][2]

Carl Gustav went to Norway on May 15, 1855 at the age of 16.^[3][4]

Carl Gustav married Anne Granlien (1842 - 1920) in the U.S. (The 1900 census says they were married 34 years). In 1880, they were living in Hale, Wisconsin with Charles' two brothers, Peter and Andrew, and their five children. Their oldest daughter, Helina, was born in Wisconsin in 1867. Also living with them were 2 farmhands from Norway, Hans Peterson and John Christianson.^[5]

Their daughter was Augusta (Johnson) Pederson (1879 - 1966).

Carl Gustav died on August 28, 1919 in Hale, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, USA aged 80.

• Carl came from Sweden to US in 1861. Johannes and sons Peder and Anders came in 1863 (with Carl after a visit) and they went to Milwaukee. Two daughters Anna and Julia also came on that trip, via Quebec. His daughter Sophy came to US a year later.
• Carl Gustaf's mother's name in the birth record is Maria, but I think this was a mistake. She is Helena in the houshold records.
• The 1900 census says he had been in the US for 39 years, so 1861 is accurate-ish.
