"...FUNERAL.—The Friends of the late Mr. John Edward Johnson (police pen-sioner, late of Rosewood), Deceased, are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, to move from his late Residence, Rosewood, This (Saturday) Morning at 10.30 to the Rosewood Cemetery."[5].
"DEATH OF AN ARMY PENSIONER.
WE learn with regret of the somewhat sudden death, at Rosewood, on Thursday night, of Mr. Edward Johnson, an old police pensioner. The deceased was well known to many people in Ipswich and elsewhere through out West Moreton, and was highly esteemed for his personal qualities. He was at one time a senior-constable in Ipswich, and lived here for some time after retiring from the force. Afterwards he conducted one of the hotels at Rosewood, and was, if we mistake not, for some time a member of the Rosewood Divisional Board. He was also an army pensioner, and was, we believe, the possessor of the Victoria Cross, which he won in the war against the Maoris in New Zealand. He was wounded in that campaign, and it is said that he carried a bullet in his head up to the time of his decease. During the?second? war in South Africa he volunteered for service, but his advanced age prevented the gallant offer being accepted.
The funeral is to take place at 10'30 a.m. to-day."[6].
"...THE LATE MR J. E. JOHNSON.
The remains of Mr J. E. Johnson, ex-police constable, were interred on Saturday morning last in the Tallegalla Cemetery. They were followed by a large cortege, including the members ofthe Divisional Board.
The service at the graveside was conducted by the rector of the parish, the Rev. H. Gradwell. On Sunday last, at both services at the Anglican Church (of which the deceased was a devoted adherent), reference was made to the sad event and appropriate hymns were sung. At the conclusion of each service the "Dead March" was sympathetically played by the organist, Mr. J. Tuffley, the congregation standing meanwhile."[7].
