Biography

Hannah Johnson's parents John Johnson and Mary Crittenden were married November 2, 1710 in Wallingford, Connecticut. The Wallingford town records give the account of the births of six children of John and Mary (Chatterton) Johnson, as follows:

John, Jr., born August 12, 1711; Hannah, born December 21, 1712; Elisha, born September 8, 1714; Moses, born July 26, 1716; Caziah, born April 20, 1718; Esther, born April 20, 1720.[1] Alexander born in 1722 in New Jersey died in 1788.

John Johnson and his wife Mary removed to Whippanong township, New Jersey, in 1720 and became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, where they and a few of their adult children are listed. The History of this church states that John Johnson Sr. "came from New Haven Co. Conn. to Morris Co.: lived at Parsippany on the Dr. Darby place, later on the John S. Smith farm. His wife Mary d 21 Sept 1774." Listed there are John who m. Abigail Ball; Moses, who m. Naomi Vail; and Alexander who m. Lois Gregory.[2]

Their daughter Hannah, who married Amos Harrison, became a member of The First Church of Orange, where they lived. She is listed there as Hannah Harrison, who d. May 5, 1794, aged 77. [3]Since her birth year is usually given as 1717, here confirmed by this church record, it appears the family might have had an earlier Hannah born 1712 in Wallingford who died young.

Hannah's husband Amos Harrison, in his will written Oct. 5, 1784, bequeathed to her "all household goods for her disposal as she sees fit...also 1/3 of the rents of the lands."[4]In this will Amos named all of their children: daughters Elenor Smith, Martha Davis, Jemima Ogden, Ruth Munn, and their sons Ruben, Isaac, and Simeon.

Hannah was buried in the First Presbyterian Churchyard.[5]
