Nathan Coleman Jolly was born May 14, 1823 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to Bradly and Elizabeth (Eades) Jolly.
Nathan's mother Elizabeth passed away sometime around 1826 in Tuscaloosa. The 1850 U.S. Census shows Nathan at age 24 living in the home of his father and step-mother Cynthia (Syntha) in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.[1]
The 1850 U.S. Census lists Nathan (Coleman) at the age of 24 with his father, his step-mother and eleven other siblings living on the family farm in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. [2]
On February 24, 1853, Nathan married Nancy Ann Cooper in Lauderdale County, Mississippi[3] and had two children before Cynthia's death in December of 1862.
The children of Nathan and Nancy Ann were Sarah Jane Jolly born February 10, 1854, and John Rice Jolly born October 9, 1856.
On January 17, 1866, Nathan remarried to Sarah Holland Cates in Lauderdale County, Mississippi[4] and fathered eight more children.
The 1870 U.S. Census has Nathan at the age of 47, with his wife Sarah and five children in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Of the children listed, Sarah and John were from Nathan's first marriage, Benjamin was from Sarah's first marriage, and William and Charles were their's together.[5]
The 1880 U.S. Census shows Nathan farming in Neshoba County, Mississippi. Living with him at home are his wife Sarah and seven of their children including a 17 year old adopted son, Benjamin.[6]
Nathan Coleman Jolly died October 25. 1889 and was buried in Black Jack Cemetery, Pearl River, Neshoba County, Mississippi.[7]
