James Garrard Jones was an American lawyer, judge, politician and soldier. Jones was a Colonel in the Union Army during the Civil War. Jones served as Indiana Attorney General.

James Garrand Jones was born on July 3, 1814, in Paris, Kentucky. [1] He was the son of James W. Jones and Elizabeth (Trimble) Jones. [2]
James G. Jones served from 1847 to 1853, as the first Mayor of Evansville, Indiana. [3]
About 1859, James G Jones married Rosana Rappelyea. [4]
From 1860 to 1861, Jones served as Indiana Attorney General. [5][3] He resigned to accept a commission in the army.
On September 9, 1861, James G. Jones was enrolled as Colonel in command of the 42nd Regiment, Indiana Infantry. [6]
Colonel Jones led his regiment in combat at the following battles: Battle of Perryville, the Battle of Stone's River, Battle of Chickamauga, Chattanooga Campaign, Battle of Resaca, Battle of Dallas, Battle of New Hope Church, Battle of Allatoona, and Battle of Jonesborough. [7]
Colonel James G. Jones resigned his commission on November 15, 1864. [6]
From 1869 to 1870, Jones served as Judge of the 15th JUDICIAL CIRCUIT. [3] Poor health forced his retirement.
James Garrard Jones passed away in 1872. He was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Indiana. [1]
