Barker Family History

Nancy's spouse Joseph is a representative of a sterling pioneer family and a descendant of William Barker, who was a member of a little colony of Virginians who migrated to KY in the early days. William and his wife settled and lived their lives on a pioneer farm near present-day Bryant Station, Fayette Co, KY. They had a son Joseph Barker d. 19 Mar 1861 who migrated as a young boy to KY. Joseph married Nancy Jones d/o Rebecca Boone the niece of Daniel Boone, the famous frontiersman and patriot. Joseph settled on a farm 3 miles south of Chilesburg, Fayette Co, KY which became his estate of 1,200 contiguous acres. Daniel Boone's survey of this area of KY is a prized heirloom owned by grandson Edwin in 1922.[4]

Joseph was a sterling citizen who contributed to the civic/industrial development and progress of Fayette Co. After his first wife died at 80 yo, he married a widow named Stivers and their one child, Dillard, who settled in MO. Joseph and his first wife had two sons Thomas F. and Joseph R. both of whom remained in KY their whole lives and became owners of a major part of their father's landed estate. Joseph R. Barker cared for his father as he aged and became the owner of the old family house which completely burned in 1908. Another son James migrated to IN and a daughter died as a young woman. Rebecca (Mrs. Erskine) and her husband migrated with her husband IN or MO.[4]
