John was born a 17 October 1786 in VIrginia. He passed away about November 1862 in Morgan County, Alabama. [1]
There is some confusion as to his wives and to which children were born from each wife.
A marriage solemnized 31 January 1830 to Sarah Blalock in Morgan, Alabama. [2]
John is alleged to have married Esther Cotton and had one child with her Mary Ann G. Jones. This Mary Ann was born about 1822.
Possible 1850 census for Lawrence County, Alabama was recorded in November of that year add shows a John Jones of the correct age as head of household with only other person Benjamin Jones age 22. [3]
John was the subject of Reminiscences of Morgan County #14, published in The Alabama Enquirer, 30 Jan 1890. [4] That article lists the following children:
A second John Jones has been attached as the son of Rev. John Claiborn Jones and maybe an error.

Looking at atDNA connections to attempt to determine the children and wives of John Claiborn Jones is difficult as most testers are at Ancestry.com and have not uploaded to GEDmatch.

Jones Turrentine and Robert descends through his daughter Mary Ann Jones Long Joyce and Robert are 4th cousins once removed and share at Ancestry 26 cM, 1 segment. Joyce matches 13 additional descendants of Mary Ann Jones Long at Ancestry, but they are not represented on Wikitree at this time. The strength of the matches; 2 at 14 cM; remainder are in the 25cM to 39 cM range suggesting that Martha and Mary Ann probably also share a mother.
Through his daughter Frances Ann Jones Hardin at Ancestry 3 more 5th cousins CG sharing 24 cM, PD sharing 41 cM, and GA sharing 15 cM.
Family Tree DNA Family Finder test match (through his daughter Malissa Jane Jones Hardin, ) between LA, Joyce’s 5th cousin, 38.8 cM on chromosome 3, and 6.74 cM on chromosome X, predicted relationship 2nd-4th cousin. Based on the unique inheritance of the X chromosome the X match could only come from the mother of D.D. R. Alexander Jones and Martha F. Jones, and may help identify her in the future. At Ancestry 3 more 5th cousins RD sharing 42 cM, CT sharing 34 cM, and ST, sharing 24 cM.
Through his son Andrew Jackson Jones at Ancestry a 4th cousin once removed DO sharing 17 cM, and 3 more 5th cousins KM sharing 8 cm, SK sharing 20 cM, and CK, sharing 9 cM.
