Biography

Joseph was born in 1793 in Albemarle, Virginia. He was the youngest of 12 children of Joseph Jones and Anna (surname unknown).

He served with the Mississippi troops in the War of 1812, he was in the battle of New Orleans, January 8, 1815.

On 8 Jan 1829, in Jefferson, Mississippi he married Martha Augusta Green. They settled in Jefferson County, MS initially where their first child was born. By 1830 they moved to Claiborne where the remaining 11 child were born. He worked planting cotton. It is here he passed away in 1852. He is buried at the Jones Cemetery in Claiborne, Mississippi.
