Biography

Frances Ann Jones was born in 1896 in Tunstall, the fourth child but third surviving child of Charles Henry Jones and Rachel (Mollart) Jones. Her father was an engine man for the colliery winding engine. Her mother died in 1906; her father remarried in 1908 to Maria Broad. By 1911 at the age of 15, Frances was working as a packer.
