Herbert was born in Buckland, Berkshire in 1868.[1] He lived above a terraced stable in New Row, Buckland He emigrated to New Zealand on the ship Scimitar with his parents and siblings 150 yrs ago, leaving Portsmouth 23.12.1873 for Port Charmers arriving on 6.03.1874. He grew up in Invercargill. Herbert Jordan married Elizabeth Gardner.[2] He passed away in 1949.[3]
He died within minutes of a Cerebral Haemorrhage according to his death certificate, which also states that he had developed Paralysis Agitans, Parkinson’s disease 6 years earlier. His grave cross is shown here, carved by his son Tom who's ashes are also buried here[4]
