Notes: (See Notes section at bottom. There is another John Jose, also born in Cornwall, England, who can be --and was -- confused with this one,)
John Jose was born July 2, 1848 in Bodmin, Cornwall Unitry Authority, Cornwall England to John Jose and Mary Chapman.[1] [2]
John C. Jose and Emily Munroe Jose had a number of children while living in Arenac Twp., Arenac, Michigan. A son named James Truman Jose was born on February 4, 1892 in Arenac. [3] Another son, Sam Jose was born on October 19, 1893. [4] A son named Percy Chapman Jose was born to the couple in Arenac, Michigan on October 16,1889. The middle name "Chapman" ties the name Chapman to this particular John C. Jose. [5] Lincoln Jose was born to the couple on March 21, 1895. [6] Daughter Grace Violett Jose was born on December 19, 1901. [7]
Although John C. Jose did not die until 1908 (see death information below), he is absent from the 1900 US census for Arenac Twp., Arenac County, Michigan, where his wife and children do show up. The census reveals that Emily Jose gave birth to 9 children, all of whom were alive when the census was taken. She immigrated into the US in 1880, and had been married for 22 years at the time of the census.

According to his Findagrave memorial page, which can be viewed at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/47576652/john-chapman-jose, John Chapman Jose died on March 30, 1908 in Arenac, Arenac County, Michigan, USA and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Family members whose Findagrave memorials are linked to from his site:
John C. Jose's death date and location are supported by information from the Michigan Deaths and Burials database at FamilySearch.[1]
This profile was originally created thinking that this John Jose was married to Mary Elizabeth Beetem. This is apparently not the case. The facts do support the existence of John Chapman Jose -- but he was not the man married to Mary Elizabeth Beetem.
There were at least two or three men named John Jose, born in Cornwall, England around the same time who migrated to the US. One had the middle name Chapman, and his mother may have been "Mary Chapman". [9]
One John Jose had a mother named "Susan", and was christened, along with a sister named "Jane Ann" on Sept 2nd, 1855. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J7KG-92F
There are at least three alleged wives of men named John Jose. Perhaps one John married all three women, but it is likely that at least two different men are involved. Care needs to be taken.
John Chapman Jose (Jose-417) -- this profile -- is being disconnected from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Beetem-47 (Mary Elizabeth Beetem) because he appears NOT to be the John Jose who was married to her. This John C. Jose married a woman named Emily Munroe. Emily can be found with John's children on the 1900 US census https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6713-1DP?cc=1325221&wc=9BW3-L24%3A1030554301%2C1032583901%2C1032587401 It is not known where John C. Jose was when the census was taken, but the OTHER John Jose and Mary Elizabeth Beetem can be found on the 1900 US census in Adams County, Iowa. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-D1L3-2JH?cc=1325221&wc=9B7P-KFR%3A1030552001%2C1030550102%2C1030600901 Unless there was bigamy involved, this can't be the same individual.
