Biography

Gerhard was born 1828 in Kirchberg, Rhein-Hunsrück, the 5th of 8 children of Dr. Johann Philipp Junk of Schönberg, Kölbingen and Theresia Steiner of Biebern. He became a royal forester, following in the footsteps of his mother's father. While working he met his supervisor's daughter Louise, and they married 1854 in Dirmingen, Eppelborn, 8 months after her father's death. Gerhard and Louise had 16 children together with 14 surviving to adulthood:
