Biography

Ur Nils William Olsson: Swedish passenger arrivals in the United States1820-1850: Jöns Ersson, farmer (landbonde) from Sälja, Nora, was b. in Ovansjö Parish (Gävl.) 28 Nov 1797, s. Erik Jansson, farmer, and Brita Jönsdotter. He was m. to Elisabeth Andersdotter, b. in Ovansjö 24 March 1803, dau. Anders Andersson, farmer and Anna Olofsdotter. They had the following children, all b. in Nora, except the oldest, b. in Ovansjö. - Anna, b. 29 sept 1826; Anders, b. 14 Feb. 1831, m. Martha Johnsson; Lisa, b, 22 March 1833, m Martin Johnsson (see note 1297); Lena, b. 19 Jan 1836, m. in 1861 Olof Hedlund (Headland)(se note 1653) and after his death in 1873 she remarried a man by the name of Hawkinson; Stina, b. 30 Jan. 1838, who in 1862 m. Magnus Johnson (See note 4485); Greta, b. 5 Nov 1840; Carin, b. 12 Oct 842, m Olof Andersson (See note 4890), and d. in 1869; Johanna, b. 8 Aug 1845, who m. Erik Krans (See note 4874) in his first marriage and Erik, b. 13 Nov 1848. Jöns Ersson received pp. for himself and his family in Västerås 29 June 1850. The pp. lists nine children, the manifest only seven. The couple had a tenth child, dau. Brita, b. in Ovansjö 26 Oct 1828 and listed as having emigr. from the parental home in Sälja, already 12 May 1846, receiving pp. in Västerås 26 June 1846. She is probably identical to Brita Jansdotter, 18 years old, who arr. in New York on the Fritz 9 Dec. 1846 (see note 1950).
