Biography

Marian was born in 1823.

She followed her husband to Nelson in 1842. She departed from Gravesend, London on the SS Lloyds and arrived in Nelson in 1842. She was 19.^[1]

After her husband died in 1873 she continued to act as the proprietor of the Provincial Hotel in Nelson.

In 1874 her son Hugh aged 19 committed suicide by hanging.^[2]

She died on 30 January 1905 at the house of her second son, James, in Collingwood Street, Nelson, New Zealand. ^[3][4]

She was buried at Wakapuaka Cemetery, Nelson, Nelson City, Nelson, New Zealand
