Ethel Mae Kays was born Sept. 15, 1904 at Sarles, North Dakota, a daughter of William John Kays and Emma Webster Kays. She grew up on the family farm outside Sarles. She was educated in the Sarles schools. [1][2]
On August 4, 1922, Ethel married George E. Mortimer at Sarles. Following their marriage, they lived at Sarles until moving to Calvin in 1941 and in 1952 moved to Cut Bank, Montana, where she was employed as a hospital housekeeper. In 1967, they returned to North Dakota and lived at Clyde until moving to Devils Lake in 1969. Mr. Mortimer died November 4, 1970. She was a member of Sarles Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star, at Calvin.[3]
Ethel Mortimer died on December 4th, 1977 in Devils Lake and was buried on December 7th in the Corinthian (Glenila Presbyterian) Cemetery in Calvin, North Dakota.[4]
