Peadar Ó Cearnaigh (12th December 1883 – 24th November 1942) was an Irish republican and songwriter, most well-known writing the lyrics to "A Soldier's Song", the Irish translation of which ("Amhrán na bhFiann") is now the Irish national anthem.
Peter, son of John and Kate (née McGuinness) Kearney was born on the 12th December 1883 at 68 Lower Dorset Street, Dublin[1]
and was baptised on the 14th December 1883 in St Michan's, Dublin; in the presence of sponsors Patrick McGill and Elizabeth Gibson.[2]
Peter Kearney of 46 Lower Dominick Street, Dublin married Eva Mary Flanagan of 10 George's Street North, Dublin on the 15th February 1914 in St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin; in the presence of Thomas Curley and M. McGrath.[3]
Peadar Ó Cearnaigh died (aged 58) on the 24th November 1942 at 25 Donoghue Street, Inchicore[4][5]
and was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin.[6]
