Biography

Thomas was born in Hackney in 1830 and baptised on 16 May that year. He was the second child of John Jesse Keates and Eliza Shurly.^[1][2]

Thomas, following in his father‘s footsteps, worked as a Tailor.^[3]

He married Sarah Ann Bullen in Hackney on 17 May 1851.^[4][5] They had three children, Amelia (1852), George Alfred (abt.1853) and Charles Thomas (1855), before Sarah passed away in 1856. She was only 25 years old.^[6]

In 1858 Thomas married Ann Cameron (1821-).^[7]

Thomas, Ann, Amelia, George and Charles continued to live in London. Amelia and George followed in their father’s profession.^[8][9][10]

Thomas passed away in Wandsworth, Surrey on 1881, at the age of 51.^[11] He was buried on 30 April that year at St Mary, Battersea, Wandsworth.^[12] The beneficiary of his will was his daughter, Amelia Sarah Ann Keates.^[13]
